چکیده
With the establishment of a new High Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT) reception system at IMD, New Delhi, real time data from microwave sounding instruments onboard NOAA-K, L, M and N series satellites has also become available. The raw HRPT is being interfaced with recently acquired ‘ATOVS AVHRR Preprocessing Package (AAPP)’ to perform temperature moisture retrievals AMSU NOAA-16 satellite using two separate schemes: Inversion Coupled Imager (ICI) Neural Network (NN) approach. In this study, over Indian region were used for retrieving profiles month January, 2002. retrieval results are evaluated by computing bias root mean square (RMS) difference collocated ECMWF analysis. based on analysis set 2002 shows that ICI approach yields better all atmospheric levels. RMS errors in found be less than 4oC pressure relative humidity 20% C Intercomparison revealed error scheme forecast field compared without

Classification of hydrometeors using microwave brightness temperature data from AMSU-B over Iran
The Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-B (AMSU-B) installed on the NOAA-15, 16, and 17 satellites, is the new generation of a series of microwave imagers/sounders that can sense atmospheric moisture and other hydrometeors through clouds. This paper demonstrates the potential of multi-frequency AMSU-B data for classifying different types of hydrometeors. Ten types of these hydrometers have been co...
متن کاملNeural Networks for Atmospheric Temperature Retrieval from AQUA AIRS/AMSU/HSB Measurements
The high spectral resolution sounding suite instruments on EOS Aqua are expected to provide estimated atmospheric profiles with higher accuracy and better vertical resolution. To validate and test it’s performance with it’s orbital measurements, temperature profiles at 101 pressure levels, up to 0.005 hPa, with 1km vertical resolution at troposphere, were retrieved on different types of terrain...
متن کاملAerosol Retrieval and Atmospheric Correction for Meris Data over Lakes
One of the objectives of the ENVISAT project AO-164 on “Environmental Research in the Eastern Alps” is the development of algorithms for retrieval of water quality parameters of lakes from MERIS data. In order to test and validate atmospheric correction algorithms and to provide basic data for the development of algorithms for retrieval of limnological parameters and aerosol loadings, several f...
متن کاملRetrieval of temperature and moisture profiles from AMSU-A and AMSU-B measurements
The NOAA-15 weather satellite carries the Advanced Microwave Sounding Units-A and -B (AMSU-A, AMSU-B) which measure thermal emission from an atmospheric oxygen band, two water lines, and several window frequencies. An iterated minimum-variance algorithm retrieves profiles of temperature and humidity in the atmosphere from this data. Relative humidity is converted into absolute humidity with use...
متن کاملA neural network based algorithm for the retrieval of TPW from AMSU measurements
Total Precipitable Water (TPW) in a column of atmosphere is one of the important parameters useful for a number of meteorological applications. In the present study, a neural network based algorithm has been developed for the retrieval of TPW using NOAA-16 AMSU measurements. The TPW has been derived experimentally using NOAA-16 AMSU measurements locally received from High Resolution Picture Tra...
